We open this month with some bittersweet news. Creative Practices is moving out of its house on 122nd Street in Oliver. Our Board of Directors and Founders have decided that going spaceless will give us the opportunity to assess our business model without the overhead expenses and significant administrative time dedicated to managing a physical space. We are using this time to best assess our path moving forward. It is our intention to keep our momentum, passion and energy alive by addressing our situation head on, adapting and moving forward with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for Creative Practices.

We loved being a part of the local maker movement and we feel that over past two years of operation we’ve been able to make a significant impact on the arts community of Edmonton. Since June 2014, we’ve been able to house over 21 local creative producers in our studio spaces, presented 15 exhibitions which highlighted over 65 visual artists and designers, screen films from five local film-makers, and provide 5 local performance artists with a venue in which they could experiment and take risks. We have also been the happy host to literary events, networking opportunities and delivered over 28 artists entrepreneurship programs with a focus on professional development.

We could not have done this alone. We are so thankful for all of the collaborators who have helped us along the way. This includes our interns, instructors, artists, and individuals who’ve dedicated their time to make this place what it is. Our internship program has been the backbone of our organization since the beginning. We’ve had the pleasure of mentoring fourteen up and coming arts administrators, curators, and event coordinators. We have also had the privilege of partnering with students from both the University of Alberta and Grant MacEwan University!

On a positive note, we will be hosting a garage sale and BBQ on Sunday, May 15, from 1-4pm. There will be so many things for sale! From a electric lawn mower, a wood picnic table, office furniture, ink,  laser printers and much more! Prices point ranges from $0.25 – $250 for our 6 piece outdoor patio set. Everything must go!! Refreshments will be $5 and $2 BBQ + side.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any thoughts, questions or just want to chat.

Talk to you soon!
